ABOUT

Jaylen Strong was born in Little Rock, Arkansas.  It would be during his elementary years where he would learn to hold a pencil and form images with it. The images would pertain to whatever was on the young boys mind.  During his middle school years he tended to not draw so much.  But it was during his high school years at Spain Park where he would re-find his love of art.  Taking multiple drawing classes would recapture his attention to something he loved to do.  This re-found love of art would carry over to college to pursue a graphic design career.

So far his aim has been to build his artistic portfolio.  He has worked with Red PaSH Magazine, Sleep is Magic, and has helped design logos for various groups.  He desires to begin a t-shirt company and hopefully through this company he can begin focusing on more clothing other than simple designs on t-shirts.  He presently doesn’t have an aim to be a studio artist, as he sees this market becoming over saturated.  He believes it would be more fulfilling to have people wearing his art.

Artist Statement

Drugs, politics, and everyday trends in America.  These are the topics of interests I use for a basic platform of what I would like to create.  With America being on the edge of marijuana legalization, I aim my art work towards this topic the most.   I create pieces that most Americans can

relate to with 38% of Americans having at least tried marijuana, and more than 50% of the country is in favor of legalization of such a useful

plant, particularly for medical purposes.  With politicians slandering the herb and making it seem like the devil's lettuce, I use art to show how politicians are quick to discredit marijuana.  My work isn’t just about politicians discrediting the plant, but also to exploit many untruths they tell

that lead people estray for personal gains.

With everyday trends changing daily in America, I aim to create work that would go along with the trends but in a truthful manner.  Although not fashion trends, but trends that the media forces its reporters to discuss such as Miley twerking.  While the media puts Mileys rump on a

pedestal, there are more serious topics to discuss.  The aim of some of my pieces is to exploit television/media for what it really is, which

is to manipulate the masses.  One example of this in my work is I use a puppet stringing a TV while the public watches that TV.
